Wondering About That Invitation?

Confused about why you received an invitation to the Cully Pig Roast, also known as “the social event of the season” (Andy Holland™)? The event is being held at the home of Helen Hierschbiel and Steve Owens, but it is being co-hosted by the following cast of characters:

  • Autumn Burns
  • Kristine and Marc Fuller
  • Andy Holland
  • “Sweet” Jimmy Pfaff

If you don’t know Steve and Helen, chances are you know or are being stalked by one of the co-hosts.

We hope you can make it to the pig roast on July 20. Please remember to RSVP.

Another Pig Roast In The Books

Word of advice.

The second annual Cully Pig Roast was a great success. We collected 567 pounds of food and $100 cash for the Oregon Food Bank! Thanks to our friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors who helped make this event so memorable.

We’d like to give a special thanks to the following:

Tim Williams, owner of Peter’s Bar & Grill. Tim donated both the beer kegs to this year’s pig roast. This is just the latest example of Tim’s support of Cully neighborhood. Please visit Peter’s and enjoy the great food and friendly service.

Marcus Hoover and Ben Meyer. Marcus and Ben allowed us to store our pigs (purchased from Ben’s wholesale meat supply company) in the walk-in fridge at Old Salt. Old Salt may no longer be around, but Marcus’s and Ben’s other fantastic restaurant, Grain & Gristle, is going strong. Marcus also loaned us the tap system, which I know our guest’s appreciated.

Jasin Hope of Dogwood Distilling donated some bottles of his DL Franklin Vodka and Union Gin, two of our favorites. Check out Jasin’s Haint Absinthe if you feel like trippin’.

Lastly, I’d personally like to thank Kristine Fuller, Andy Holland, Jim Pfaff, Steve Owen, Helen Hierschbiel and Autumn Burns. Andy and I had an idea for a pig roast a couple of years ago. Steve and Helen made it a reality. We all pitched in on the menu planning, guest list, coordinating, pit construction, equipment ordering, food shopping and cooking. People kept thanking us for the hard work, but I think I can speak for all the hosts and say it didn’t feel like work at all. It was a chance to spend time with friends on an event that made people happy and did a little bit of good. That is not work. That is joy.

See you next year.

Let’s Fill These Buckets!

See these buckets? We’re gonna fill ’em! Remember, we’re doing this for charity, and we don’t want the Oregon Food Bank to think our friends are a bunch of punks.

By the way, that beer bottle makes the buckets look a lot smaller than they really are. It’s called perspective. Ask Steve Owen to explain it if you don’t understand.

S#*ts Getting Real

Where the magic happens.

Pig Roast day is almost upon us. Your Cully Pig Roast crew* spent the past couple of weekends building our expanded cooker. Big enough to hold two pigs and some side meats.

A few reminders:

  1. We’re doing this for charity, so don’t forget to bring a food donation. Oregon Food Bank’s Most Wanted Items
  2. We’ve added a macaroni and cheese as a side dish/vegetarian main.
  3. Breakside ISA and Ex Novo Mexican Lager will be on tap.

We’re at 103 official guests. If you haven’t RSVP’d, please do so. If you previously RSVP’d but can’t make it, let us know. We’re shopping for supplies this week.

We hope everyone is as excited as we are for the big day. Be ready for a good time.

Where the party at?

Some folks have noted that the web site doesn’t list the date or location of the party. This is intentional. The pig roast isn’t a neighborhood event open to everyone, so we though it best to only include the pertinent information on the invitation and not the site.

Please contact Marc Fuller at info@cullypigroast.com if you need information about the pig roast.

Man cannot live by pork alone

Except for certain religious groups (who we love and respect but don’t fully understand) and vegetarians (whose sanctimony and self-righteousness are not the least bit annoying), everyone loves to eat pork. But like your stock portfolio, your palate needs to be diversified.

To that end, we will be serving more than two delicious whole hogs (whose names are Trixxxie and Destinii by the way). The menu will include:

  • Roast chicken
  • Texas hot links
  • Coleslaw
  • Kale salad
  • Rolls

We will also be serving beer (thank you Peter’s Bar & Grill for the keg donation), soft drinks and water. Feel free to bring wine or hard alcohol to share or to drink alone in a quiet corner.

What should you bring?

Several folks have offered to bring a dish to the pig roast. While we appreciate the generous offers, this isn’t a potluck. This is a party by the hosts for our friends. Besides, making potato salad for a 100 people is no easy task.

What you can bring is food for the Oregon Food Bank. There will be buckets set up to accept these donations.
